Using Flightradar
Grandson: Hello, Grandma BESS, it’s me, your grandson is speaking!
Grandma BESS: Hello my Sweetheart, I’m here, your Grandma, BESS. I feel happy you call me, how are you?
Grandson: Fine, thanks. As you know, grandma, on next Monday I’ll travel to Hong-Kong by air.
Grandma BESS: Yes, I know your journey is so close now. I'm worried about you flying such a long time on the airplane.
Anyway, when does your flight start?
Grandson: We start on Monday at 8 o’clock in the morning. But, grandma, if you are worried, you can easily follow my flight online, on the screen, from home. Would you like this idea?
Grandma BESS: Of course I would! Really? How can I do that?
Grandson: There are several Internet-based so-called flightradar services that can show real-time flight information - you can follow the route progressing on a color map on your laptop. Maybe the most popular and well-known is flightradar24. You just need to use my flight number which I'll send you immediately.
Grandma BESS: What should I do on this website? Is it complicated?
Grandson: When you open the website you will see a map with live air traffic all over Europe: small icons of planes are moving ahead. Don’t be frightened of the many planes. If you type in the flight number and click on the search button you will see immediately the current location of my flight.
Moreover, if you click on the symbol of my airplane you will see the airplane’s photo and data like aircraft type, position, altitude and speed. You will see precisely where I am.
Grandma BESS: That sounds great, my dear. I can follow all of your route time. But can I have information about the hopefully safe landing, as well? Yes, of course. You can follow the entire route from the take-off, any turns right or left, and also you will see the landing –
the expected and the real time and other information. The map is flexible: you may zoom in and out for a better perspective.
Grandma BESS: OK-OK, but I am still worrying…
Grandson: No, you don’t have to do that, Grandma. As you follow my flight it is a bit like you would be with me.
Grandma BESS: Oh, dear, you are so nice and sweet. Have a nice journey! I will follow your flight with butterflies in my stomach.
Grandson: I am so happy, Grandma, to help you with an interesting service! Good-bye, see you soon!
